Prostatic Urethral Lift (UroLift®)

Urolift is new procedure for BPH that uses tiny implants to separate excess prostate tissue blocking normal urine flow caused by an enlarged prostate. It involves no cutting, heat, or tissue removal.

The implants resemble tiny bands, which lift or separate the lobes of the prostate. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra, which transports or passes urine from the bladder. As men age, their prostates begin to grow which can narrow the urethra and obstruct urine flow.

UroLift is meant for men with enlarged prostates who have failed or can no longer tolerate medication for this condition. Younger men with an enlarged prostate may also benefit. This procedure is done as outpatient and many men do not require a catheter when they go home.

The number of implants needed depends upon the size and shape of the patient’s prostate. Patients can experience symptom relief in as little as two weeks after the procedure. A benefit of UroLift is that a man maintains normal ejaculation.
