A vasovasostomy is a complex microsurgical procedure to reverse sterility caused by a vasectomy. It involves reconnecting the ends of the vas deferens. This is a technically challenging microsurgical procedure using needles and stitches barely visible to the human eye.
In a vasectomy, the vas deferens, the tube that carries sperm from the testicles to the prostate, is severed. This prevents sperm from reaching the seminal fluid, which is discharged when a man climaxes upon sexual arousal.
A vasectomy reversal takes several hours to perform. Its success depends upon several factors: the amount of time that has passed since the vasectomy, the type of vasectomy performed, the quality of the sperm and the experience of the urologist performing it.
