Are You A Kidney Stone Former?

The Kidney Stone Prevention Program at South County Urological is meant for known stone formers. Specifically, it is meant for those persons who have previously been diagnosed with and treated for kidney stones at our practice or elsewhere. The program offers rapid relief from the pain associated with problem kidney stones, whether it is providing on-site pain medication to minimize discomfort, or performing outpatient and inpatient procedures to pulverize or remove stubborn stones.

Treatment is provided at our office and, if necessary, at the outpatient surgery center in our building. We have access to the surgery center’s Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) machine. In addition, the center is fully equipped with the latest minimally-invasive technology to treat stones. This includes ureteroscopes and the Holmium laser, which is designed to break any stone into tiny fragments. Although infrequent, some procedures still need to be performed in a hospital.

Upon retrieval of your stone, our physicians will analyze its composition along with urine and blood tests to come up with an individualized program to help you prevent or minimize the risk of stone recurrence. This includes dietary changes and possibly prescription and non-prescription medications.
