Prostate Laser Therapy (GreenLight Laser) in St. Louis

The GreenLight High Performance System (HPS) Laser provides the effectiveness of traditional surgery called a TURP — with fewer side effects and a faster recovery.

It is a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure that uses a high-powered laser to vaporize and remove excess prostate tissue blocking normal urine flow associated with an enlarged prostate. Treatment may take up to one hour with the patient receiving a quick-acting general and local anesthetic. Following a brief recovery, the patient is discharged home wearing a catheter that he removes one to two days later while showering.

Results are near-immediate with many patients noticing symptom relief and improved urine flow within 24 hours of treatment.

Common side effects associated with the GreenLight Laser therapy are burning with urination, frequent urination and blood in the urine. These side effects tend to be mild and short lived. Retrograde ejaculations (dry orgasms) are possible.

The GreenLight HPS laser can accommodate most men including those with larger prostates and those on blood thinners. It is used to treat mild to severe symptoms.

South County Urological is the only private practice in St. Louis and Missouri to have its own GreenLight HPS Laser for on-site treatment of BPH. Consequently, we are among the most experienced physicians locally to perform this laser therapy for treating an enlarged prostate.
